CASE STUDY: AMG Endurance Charity event review
Wow! What an event.
On Sunday 5th June, race simulator The Race Hut welcomed 14 teams to compete in the inaugural 12 hours of Montreal. An endurance event, the teams came with energised drivers to drive the LMP2 Prototype specification ORECA cars (as seen racing on the FIA World Endurance Championship at Silverstone, Le Mans and Spa.
Throughout the event, each team had to manage pitstops, tyres, fuel, staying on the track(!), keeping drivers fresh and encouraging one another. The 16 allocated race simulators are state of the art and were prepared for the enduro. Teams from the Mercedes Benz F1 team were there, as were from motorsport bible Autosport, as well games gurus Codemasters but importantly local businesses keen to get involved in a very cost effective motorsport race for a very deserving cause.
The race environment was tense; the eager anticipation was keenly felt. The stage was set, and at 10am on 5th June 2016, a rolling start saw the start of the #12hoursmontreal. A cheer from teams and driving partners once they gained a place; a groan from another once they lost a place. As the race grew older, so the teams got them into a pattern; pitstops became an art form. Communication, team building and engagement was absolutely essential. However, brilliant fun was had by all.
“Team Endurance racing on our race simulators is fantastic fun and gets highly competitive, if you have never taken part in anything like this before we urge you to do so, it will be a truly memorable event.”
At 4pm, the race met half distance, another 6 hours to go. Much for the teams to ponder; yet the race was being driven at a ferocious pace. When the drivers were not behind the wheel, the generous space at The Race Hut had was given to AMG Mercedes Benz F1 Team, Autosport and Codemasters to display silent auction prizes. Here there was money can’t buy prizes such as a factory tour, technical drawings, games, subscriptions, autographed garments – lots of items so money could be raised for the local Air Ambulance service.
“Communication, team building and engagement was absolutely essential. However, brilliant fun was had by all.”
As the race grew to the finish, there were a lot of tired drivers, but everyone was thrilled that such a special event had been put on at The Race Hut; and importantly nearly £3,000 was raised for the local Air Ambulance service. A truly staggering amount of money for a superb cause.
