Charity Driven 24HR Race Preview
With just over two weeks until the big race of the year – the Charity Driven 24 Hour – we’re previewing what is set to be, once again, a fantastic event.
In it’s 4th instalment with the Race Hut, 2018 will see the 24 Hour Race mimic the greatest event on the motor racing calendar – the Le Mans 24 hour.
Nevertheless – it’s not just about the racing as we will be looking to raise £8000 for The Brain Tumour Charity!
With the World Endurance Championship machinery out in full force, the race will involve both a prototype and GT category. However, in this instalment to mix things up a little, the PRO class (which will consist of race hut regulars and sim racers alike) will use the slower and more demanding GT category cars – whilst the AM class (less experienced one-off racers and first timers) will use the faster and more forgiving LMP1 prototypes.
The car choice in both categories is an interesting one as each car, despite being strictly balanced on performance, has its own set of characteristics.
In the GT category, there is a real mix between car configurations as the three front-engine cars – Aston, Corvette and the BMW – drive very differently to the mid and rear engine cars of Ferrari and Porsche respectively.
Alongside this, the engines themselves see very different characteristics – for example the Corvette and Porsche have the smoothest power delivery however consume marginally more fuel.
In contrast the BMW is the heaviest of our GT cars available and therefore suffers in lap time but due to its fuel consumption statistics may be able to go longer on stint length.
In the prototype category, the choice of the Porsche, Toyota and Audi is slightly simpler. The main difference between all three high downforce cars is the Audi’s Diesel engine which makes for a slightly less desirable driving experience!
With nearly all our 16 team slots booked, we’re looking for the final teams to get signed up for the big event. If you fancy getting in the mix on March 3/4th, then get along to our website for full details and give us a call to sort a team deposit.
In the meantime – keep up to date with the all the build up across our social media channels.
