When Team GB Gymnasts came to The Race Hut
Perfect preparations for Rio 2016. Go #TeamGB
Expectations are high, the training intense and motivation is bubbling, yet the Team GB Gymnasts still need some downtime, so during one Monday in early they visited The Race Hut in Oxford for some race action.
Whilst enjoyment the name of the game, it also helped with team communication, a different challenge and engagement amongst one another. Just a week from competing with us, they will be in the heat of Rio preparing for the rigours of competing for the glory of winning for their country.
Coaches and competitors were amongst the 14 strong party to be welcomed to our venue. Amongst the personnel we welcomed were familiar names from London 2012 including Louis Smith MBE, Max Whitlock and Brinn Bryan. However, complementing these familiar figures were more of the men’s rhythmic gymnasts and some of the spectacular trampoline competitors.
As the team is competing in Rio, Brazil we thought it would be good to put them on Brazil’s F1 track; Sao Paulo! To acclimatise and get use to the track and technology, the guys and girls started in starter Formula BMW cars. A few practice sessions and a race, and they were ready for an F1 car around the same track.
Thrills and spills
There were thrills and spills, but also a lot of fun was had by all at The Race Hut.
All times, places and points were calculated at the end of the day’s racing; the finishing podium were all warmly applauded. In the end, everyone had a great time and some Olympic magic dust was sprinkled on the venue.
The podium
Go TEAMGB in Rio this Summer! We’ll be cheering you on!
