SWB Endurance R#1 Race Report
From a very popular Spa Enduro Classic event at the end of 2017 which saw Spa-Francorchamps tackled in a selection of 1970s GT cars, the Race Hut was proud to welcome the first round of it’s new 2018 SWB Motorsport 3 hour Endurance series on January the 21st.
With sponsorship from partners SWB Motorsport offering a single seater experience for the championship winners, the series has already drawn a lot of exposure within Race Hut regulars and newcomers alike. With entry just £40 per team (1-4 drivers) for the four and a half hour event, the cost effective close racing nature once again drew a large turnout.
In keeping with the theme of the series, teams were presented with a selection of vehicles for the race, each one with very different handling characteristics. Round 1 saw teams tackle the Zandvoort Grand Prix circuit in a selection of 1970s Touring Cars; Ford Escort RS Mk1, Alfa Romeo GTA 2.0L or the BMW CSL 3.2L Alpina. Each vehicle underwent stringent BOP (balance of power) testing and modifications prior to the event to enable no car to have an advantage over the event duration.
The agile and driver friendly Alfa Romeo GTA and the beastly BMW CSL dominated the grid with the screaming and lairy Ford Escort proving less popular within the teams (not surprisingly!).
The second round of the SWB Motorsport Endurance Series is on the 21st April and will feature the fantastic DRM cars at the notorious Nurburgring Grand Prix circuit. As always, stay updated to our Race Hut social media channels to see information and media on our upcoming race events.
