The Race Hut reopens with focus on safety
The new safety procedures
The Race Hut have are pleased to announce our reopening on Wednesday, 29th of July and will be accepting new bookings from Tuesday, 30th June. Our family-friendly Oxford-based venue will be running limited capacity events, easing customers back into socially distanced sim-racing with a host of new Covid-19 safety procedures in place.
One of the biggest changes for The Race Hut will be when booking an event. This will only be possible over the phone speaking to one of our dedicated and friendly venue staff, they will be able to walk you through the revised list of available events. Calling us early to book your slot is advisable due to new capacity restrictions.
Inside the venue
Once inside, you will be greeted by a myriad of hygiene equipment, ranging from acrylic screens to hand sanitiser stations. Customers will be asked to wear gloves and a face mask whilst in the building.
Any food or drinks purchased will be done so by contactless payments only, cash or chip and pin will not be accepted until further notice. Customers will also have to keep their distance whilst in the venue, 2m social distancing will be strictly enforced for all staff and customers. If anyone fails to adhere to the venue’s new rules, staff reserve the right to request that rule-breaking individuals leave the building.
In addition, we will be running limited capacity events until further notice, decreasing the amount of contact between individuals. 8-10 people will be the maximum number of customers permitted in the venue at the same time. Event formats will also be limited during this time, enabling staff to effectively manage smaller, simpler events. Call the team on 01865 771556 to find out more details on which events are currently available.
The racing simulator pods have also had new features installed to help combat the spread of Covid-19. The wheels themselves now have an easy-to-clean cover on the side grips, as well as a new video briefing on each pod eliminating the need for group briefings. Meanwhile, session results will be displayed on the pod replacing the venue’s previous central results TV.
To close your event, the podium ceremony will only feature the winning driver. Second and third-place finishers will still collect their silverware but may have to save the champagne celebrations for the safety of their own homes.
A word from the owner
“I’m incredibly excited to get back on track,” commented Race Hut Owner Chris Chown “although sim-racing at home has very much become the norm during the lockdown period, there is still the social side of seeing friends and family in a fun and friendly setting that you can’t get anywhere else!”
“During the downtime, we have cooked up a few ideas to update the venue and give it a fresh new feel, you should see some of these coming soon but currently protecting everyone at the venue is of paramount importance. We have implemented a huge amount of safety features in the venue to keep our staff and customers safe.
“We would like to say thank you to all of our loyal customers who have remained patient through these difficult times as well as all of those who raced with us online during lockdown. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back to The Race Hut on the 29th July, it will be quite different, but it’ll be good to get back to doing what we do best – racing!”
